Do You Keep Calm and Mustache On? Mustache Home Decor

Slowly but surely it’s been creeping into our every day lives…Mustache Mania!

Dinnerware, t-shirts, drawer pulls, posters, etc.  My kids are obsessed with it!  We decorated our school with mustaches to kick off our fundraising event and to give an incentive to sell five items in the first week.  You wouldn’t believe the response to a free popsicle with a fun, furry mustache attached!

When It’s Raining, Does It Feel Like It’s Pouring…Projects?

So, It’s been a bit busy at my home.

What your kitchen looks like when the backsplash and cabinets are removed.

This is what happens when you realize your cabinets are coming apart and might fall off your wall anytime.  YIKES!  So, off to Lowe’s we went and this is what my kitchen looked like two weeks ago.  So that’s project one.  Stayed tuned more to come on that.

Should I Ask An Interior Designer?

Should I Ask An Interior Designer?

From updating spaces, remodeling baths and a kitchen, to finishing a basement, plus a reconstruction from a house fire, my husband and I have done a lot to our home.  We’ve had help on pretty much all of it.  And in most cases, at one point, I wondered how do people do this without an interior designer’s help?

As much as the painters, tile installer, carpet layer, woodworker, cabinet installer, remodeler can give advice about material selection, most really don’t want too.  Have you noticed that?  In the case of our basement being finished, I had to design the stair opening, column woodwork detail, kitchen lay-out and gave a bunch of input where I wondered, what do people do that don’t have any design knowledge?  Try picking out a color that’s below the lightest shade on a paint chip, “that’s an interesting color”.

What Hue Are You? Nail Polish

What Hue Are You? Nail Polish

On the second day of the boys being back in school, I decided to get a manicure.  I NEVER get a manicure, why pay for something I can do myself?  Well, some what can do myself. : )  But, it seemed like the best way to get a little boost in my blue spirit.

So off I went and was promptly overwhelmed by all the color choices.  No longer pinks, reds and nude now there’s a rainbow of choices.

It got me thinking how nails can be an expression without compromising a conservative style.  Are you up on the latest when it comes to your nails?

How’s your Summer break going?

How’s your Summer break going?

So, we are in full Summer break mode here.

It’s been “fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the t-bird awwwaaayyyy”.  Well, in our case, till my husband wonders when the house will get clean. : )

We’ve been hitting the pool, Kings Island and LOTS AND LOTS of baseball games.

So, I’ve been wondering a few things…

1.  What do people do with their old underwear when they replace them?  I feel guilty about just throwing them away.  I know that seems like a strange question but I am constantly donating clothes, toys, etc.  So, it bothers me to throw away undies.  Should I save them and use them as dust rags?  I think my boys might have a cow or die of embarrassment if I do that. Hmmmm.

2.  I bought a Mason bee house last month but have not had a bee visit.  I’ve placed it in a sheltered area, by mud, with the morning sun shining on it.  I wonder when the bees will realize it is such a nice home to deposit their little bees?

3.  If I have a yard sale each year, why do I continue to have enough stuff to have another? : )  And, if my yard sale is more treasure than trash should I do Ebay instead?

So, this is the week I get back on track.

Off to buy a wallpaper steamer, I’ve got a bathroom that needs updating!  Wish me luck!

How did Picasso’s mom display his art? Kids’ Artwork

How did Picasso’s mom display his art? Kids’ Artwork

Well, I don’t think Picasso lives in my house but I do have two creative boys that live here.  And as I mentioned in this past post, my sons’ art teacher has them complete wonderful art projects.

So, this morning I thought it might be fun to show you how I have displayed their artwork in our home.  Enjoy!

Did you get your free comic book?

Did you get your free comic book?

Not only was Saturday, May 5, Cinco De Mayo, Derby Day (surely even outside of Louisville, KY people know this) but also FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!  We are big fans of free comic book day especially since our family LOVES comic books!  It all started about seven years ago when my kids were Captain America and the Hulk for Halloween.  Being a Barbie girl myself, I had to get educated real quick on all things super, such as the Avengers, X-Men, Power Rangers, etc.

So, where else do you go to get educated but, comic books.  Now times have changed since my elementary school days of Richie Rich, Archie and Disney comics. Marvel is still around along with DC but there is soooo much more with some old and new characters.  Check out the Smurfs below and Sonic, FUN!

Dancing in Cleats? Lacrosse

Dancing in Cleats? Lacrosse

When you sit on the sidelines of five lacrosse games in one weekend, you kind of start to view things a little differently.  Instead of focusing on just one player, you start to see the set-up of plays, placement of positions, the fluid movement of the ball up the field as it passes from one player to the next and the disconnect if done incorrectly.  It becomes a dance.

The sport of lacrosse is new to our family.  My youngest has been playing for four years and I am still amazed when he catches the ball.  It is NOT an easy feat.  Many summer nights, I play a game of catch with him, where he catches and I pick up the missed passes.  It’s not that easy to judge distance when trying to catch something in a little net.

So, watching these boys, get it, get that ability to make it look so natural and effortless is amazing to see.

If you’d like to see the NCAA 2011 championship game, click here.  This month a movie, Crooked Arrow, is coming to theaters about lacrosse.  It looks like a “Mighty Ducks” type of movie, with the underdog team being Native American.  The irony is lacrosse is a sport originated in Native American culture and is one of the oldest team sports.

Has lacrosse taken hold of your family?  Is it new to you or is it something that you have loved for a long time?

Would you like to visit my bathroom? DIY project

Did I grab you with the title?  :-)

I am kind of serious about the invite to visit my bath but, it’s just because I want you to see my latest DIY project!

It all started with Pinterest… (I wonder if one day that’s how a great American novel will start?)  You see I was scrolling down and someone had pinned this great picture, from casasugar.com.

Cute, right?  I’m kind of diggin’ the whole yellow and gray color trend but really, it’s the medallions I love!  This reminded me of these rosettes, I saw in Ballard Designs‘ catalog, which I had been coveting and waiting for them to go on sale (or at least show up in our Ballard Designs Outlet) for a while.

Do you love your child’s art teacher?

Do you love your child’s art teacher?

I do!

My kids have been blessed with a wonderful art teacher at their school.  She is constantly introducing them to new art techniques, different medias and a variety of artists’ works.  The school supports her and the children’s hard word by providing bulletin boards and display cases to showcase the students’ artworks.
